The Boat

The primary boat we will fish out of is “Deceiver” (as in Lefty’s Deceiver, RIP Lefty), a Jones Brothers’ Cape Fisherman 23 Lite Tackle Edition. She’s a 23′ long modified-V boat with a great ride in the waves and chop, a pronounced Carolina Flair to keep everyone dry during the runs, and a 12 degree stern dead rise to stay stable in drifts and at anchor. No more rolling side to side like you’re in a washing machine on the spin cycle when trying to make your casts! With no obstructions to catch your fly lines, clear decks, and a raised casting platform in the bow with removable leaning post – Deceiver is the perfect fly fishing and light tackle platform for both sight fishing on the flats, chasing Albies in the fall, or casting into the rips looking for the big girls. The padded coaming pads around the gunnels allow you to brace against the sides in waves and not go home sore with bruises.

She comes equipped with top of the line electronics from Humminbird, including a Solix 15 with Mega+ side imaging and chirp 2D fishfinder, Navionics Platinum Plus, a Humminbird CHIRP radar, Icom VHF radio with GPS and DSC, and a Fusion stereo head unit with bluetooth and JL speakers if you want tunes on the way. She also sports a Minn Kota Riptide Ulterra 112v trolling motor with iPilot, giving us GPS anchoring and trolling motor auto-pilot. The trolling motor is removable for when fly fishing and don’t want to be concerned with catching the lines in the motor.

Under gunnel storage can fit multiple 9-11′ fly rods and 13 rod holders for spinning rods and there’s ample storage under the bow casting platform, in the jump seats, and in the insulated live well for all of your belongings. She does have a large high capacity livewell for those days when they just won’t strike anything else. For food, snacks, and drinks there is a 75 quart Yeti cooler under the leaning post that’ll keep everything cold and fresh for multiple days in even the hottest temperatures.
