Slim Beauty Knot

Thin, strong, and made for heavy leaders. The slim beauty joins your line to a big fluorocarbon shock leader with a low-profile knot that outshines the Albright when the leader gets thick.

The slim beauty does exactly what its name promises: it joins your line to a heavy leader with a slim, strong knot. It has become a favorite for connecting braid or mono to a thick fluorocarbon shock leader, the kind of connection you need for big, powerful fish, and it slides through the guides better than a bulkier alternative.

When and why to use it

Use the slim beauty to tie braid or mono to a heavy fluorocarbon leader for tuna, big striped bass and other heavy-leader situations. It is thinner and, for many anglers, stronger and easier than the Albright when the leader is heavy, while still passing through the guides well enough to cast.

How it works

You put a double overhand knot in the heavy leader and snug it into a small figure-eight, then pass the lighter line through the two openings of that figure-eight, wrap it back around the leader several times and back through, and cinch. The figure-eight in the leader is what the lighter line grips, giving the knot its strength in a compact package.

Tip Form the figure-eight in the leader neatly before you weave the lighter line through it, and lubricate everything well. A clean figure-eight and tidy wraps are what let the slim beauty seat small and hold big.
