Tillies Bank

The bank between the big two. Tillies Bank rises east of Cape Ann, tucked between Stellwagen and Jeffreys Ledge, a productive bit of North Shore structure that concentrates bait and bluefin.

Tillies Bank is a rise east of Cape Ann, sitting between Stellwagen and Jeffreys Ledge. It is another piece of North Shore structure that gathers bait and bluefin, and its position makes it a natural stop when you are working the water between the two bigger banks.

The ground

Fish the edges and the bait on the bank. As always, the productive spot shifts with wind, tide and where the bait is holding, so read the water.

How to fish it

Trolling to search and jigging marked fish are the go-to. Tillies fishes well as part of a bigger day working the North Shore structure.

Tip Treat Tillies as one stop on a North Shore circuit. If it is quiet, it is a short move to Stellwagen's northeast edge or out toward Jeffreys, so keep moving between the banks until you find the fish.

About the coordinates The coordinates on this page are an approximate reference to orient you, not a navigation waypoint. Fish move, and numbers vary boat to boat, get exact, current marks locally and always run on a plotter with proper charts.
Regulations Tuna are federally managed highly migratory species requiring an HMS permit, with category, size and retention rules that change through the season. Confirm current rules with NOAA Fisheries HMS before fishing.

Learn it here, land it out there

Reading is a great start. The fastest way to get good is a day on the water with someone who does it every day.

Note: fishing regulations (size limits, bag limits, seasons, permits) change often. Always confirm current rules with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (saltwater), MassWildlife (freshwater), or NOAA Fisheries (offshore/HMS) before you keep a fish.
