Lake Quinsigamond

A deep urban gem. Lake Quinsigamond, in the heart of Worcester, holds largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike and good panfishing over deep, varied structure.

Lake Quinsigamond, stretching along the Worcester and Shrewsbury line, is a deep, developed lake that fishes far better than its urban setting suggests. It holds largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike and solid panfish, over deep water, drop-offs, docks and weed edges.

The water

Fish the drop-offs, humps, docks and weed lines. Smallmouth relate to the deeper rock and structure, largemouth to the docks and weeds, and pike to the weed edges and coves. The depth makes it a good summer and ice fishery.

How to fish it

Work docks and weeds for largemouth with wacky rigs and Senkos; deeper structure for smallmouth with drop shots; and weed edges for pike with spinnerbaits and swimbaits on wire. Downsized rigs load up on perch and crappie.

Tip Do not overlook the docks. A deep urban lake like Quinsigamond has endless dock structure, and skipping a wacky-rigged stick worm under the docks is one of the most reliable ways to find its largemouth.

Note: fishing regulations (size limits, bag limits, seasons, permits) change often. Always confirm current rules with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (saltwater), MassWildlife (freshwater), or NOAA Fisheries (offshore/HMS) before you keep a fish.
