Hedge Fence is a shoal in Nantucket Sound off the north shore of Martha's Vineyard, and the current ripping over it makes it a reliable producer. It holds striped bass and bluefish through the season, and in the fall the rips draw albies and bonito chasing bait.
The ground
Fish the rips over the shoal, where current concentrates sand eels and other bait. The down-current edges hold bass and blues, and the funny fish blitz the bait on top in the fall.
How to fish it
Bass and blues on soft plastics and jigs through the rips; albies and bonito on small fast metals and light spinning gear when they show in the fall.
Tip In the fall, keep a light albie rod ready over Hedge Fence. The same rips that hold bass all summer light up with albies and bonito chasing bait, and a fast little metal is what they want.
