Cliff Pond, the largest of the kettle ponds in Nickerson State Park in Brewster, is a deep, clear Cape Cod gem. It holds quality smallmouth bass, stocked trout and some largemouth, in a quiet, scenic setting with cartop-only, no-gas-motor access that keeps it peaceful.
The water
The clear, deep kettle pond has rocky drop-offs and points that smallmouth love, along with cold water for the trout. The no-gas-motor rule and cartop access make it ideal for a canoe, kayak or float tube.
How to fish it
Fish the rocky structure for smallmouth with drop shots, tubes and crayfish imitations, and work spoons and flies for the trout. The clarity rewards finesse and light line.
Tip Bring a canoe or kayak and go quiet. Cliff Pond’s no-motor rule and clear water make stealth easy and effective, ease along the rocky drop-offs and fish light for its smallmouth and trout.
