Cocktail blues are the name of the game right now with schoolies and black sea bass plentiful as well. On one trip we counted 60+ surface blitzes of cocktail blues from Falmouth to Hyannisport and every rip we stopped at along the way had a mix of blues and Black Sea Bass. Running around the normal spots watching the sounder, if you see something on the ground and drop a jig you’re likely to come up with a Black Sea Bass or Scup in reward. The larger of the BSB seemed to be in the rips though.

I had a lull in trips so my wife and I took the boat over to Edgartown to get away. Even with no intention of fishing at all, it was hard to avoid the surface blitzes of cocktail blues and we decided to stop at one on the way into Edgartown harbor and throw some Hogy Epoxy jigs into the mix. My wife hooked up 7 of 9 casts with aggressive little blues on either the pink or olive colors in 7/8oz. After having fun there for a while we went into the island and made a day out of it.

Tight Lines,
